International Dance Day – 2009

On the Market Place today Abingdon Town Council hosted the second International Dance Day. It began with that most English of dance groups: the Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers.

There followed Irish dancing …

Then came a Spanish influence with Flamenco

The weather was good and there was a good crowd.

Next, from Turkey, Belly Dancing

And finally to the Balkans.

All these dance groups are local to Abingdon or Oxford, and they are all looking for nice people to join them. And there is more dancing next Saturday when the Mr Hemmings Traditional Abingdon Morris Dancers, with invited guest teams, will be dancing round town, and at the Market Place from about 2 PM.

All sorts of Things in the River

All sorts of things end up in the river. Supermarket Trolleys get dumped, but few end up looking quite so battered as this one in the River Thames. It could almost be designated a Historic Wreck Site.

If anybody has lost this Biffa ‘Cardboard Only’ recycling container then it is to be found in the River Ock, complete with its full load of cardboard, near the first footbridge downstream from the Drayton Road Bridge. But you will need a tractor to pull it out.

There is no pot of gold under the rainbow today.
