The dog boutique has opened today in Abingdon High Street. The main and back room has a boutique, and spa. A pink sign says ‘Every dog has its day’.
The second room is open as a café that serves dog-friendly Ice Cream. It is a place where dogs can party.
For me, this shop will always be Bragg’s bicycle shop – of many happy memories.
This doggy shop is not alone; is a blind eye turned to yet more pavement obstructions ! What do local byelaws say these days ? Even if there is some statute I doubt there is anyone prepared or empowered to enforce anything.
There used to be a time when on-street shop advertising had to be clear above 6ft 6″.
Some time ago I read of a pavement vigilante in Oxford who lifted such obstructions and placed them in the offending shop doorway. He was absolved from the subsequent altercation and the shopkeeper was reminded of his duty not to obstruct.
