Abingdon Counnty Hall Museum was open from 7-9pm this evening. There were exhibitions to look round, but most people were watching the musicians perform. There was a good turnout of people.
The Oxford Waits were performing in 17th period costume.
Scampy played acoustic music.
The Alphorn Trio performed traditional Swiss Alphorn music. It is the first time I have seen an Alphorn band performing in Abingdon. The horns used to be used for signalling or rounding up cows, but are now adapted as musical instruments.
Super pictures and it looks like a very enjoyable evening. Pity they didn’t extend the lift to the museum, so that people like me could join in.
Oh, when the big refurbishment and repairs took place the then Town Council tried and tried but were scuppered by the National powers that hold control over what is allowed on Grade 1 listed buildings. However the position of the lift that is there is in the right place for the lift design that was approved by everyone else and is also still there. Our hope is that one day it will be worth pursuing again.
Looks like it would have been a good event.
I find this blog useful for keeping up with what is going on in Abingdon. However, one suggestion is that it would be helpful if events like this were highlighted in advance rather than afterwards.
I often find myself thinking if only I had heard about that I would have gone…..
whoops some how missed this. Could you hear well from the Market Place?
AbiMarina – most town events advertised at link below

Hopefully the new Town Council will replace the Town noticeboards which were removed one by one in recent years. In the meantime most events are advertised in the Library foyer and Mostly Books window – but as Iain says the Abingdon.gov calendar is the most comprehensive. The Abingdon Facebook Group is pretty good too.
