The garland of leaves and flowers that has adorned the entrance to Our Lady and St Edmund Church in Abingdon for the last year of pilgrimage are now gone. Passing that way today I spotted something else on the first day of advent.
Welcome to Live Simply – ‘Laudato Si’.
I googled to find that Pope Francis’ initiative on climate change, ‘Laudato Si’, is an invitation to everyone on the planet to care for our common home.
Twenty years ago church goers would park their cars on Sunday in the Penlon factory over the road. The area over the road has become housing. Old Man’s Beard can be seen sweeping in front of the houses between Penlon Place and Jackman Close.

Extravaganza with S Club
S Club sang ‘Never had a dream come true …’
Then it could have happened to you in Abingdon today at the Extravaganza. The Oxford Caledonian pipers were there to play
Father Christmas was in a sleigh.
Bath Street was packed. Hopefully this was a dream for the retailers.
And if your dream is to be a fireman then the Abingdon fire service want new recruits.
There were queues to go inside the glass snow ball.
Then S Club came on the stage, and sang some songs well known from round the turn of the millennium including ‘Ever had a Dream Come True” and ‘S Club Party’ .
The Christmas lights were switched on, and the fireworks were amazing. Here is my attempt at a video with parade, lights on, S Club, and fireworks.
Thankyou again to the Abingdon Chamber of Commerce who stage this event. It could have been the best yet.
