Home Store & More – Closing Down Sale

Home Store & More
All four Home Store & More stores are to close – including the one at the Fairacres Retail park in Abingdon – which opened in September 2010.

Home Store & More was, I understand, an Argos trial venture which did not become profitable in what is a difficult time for any startup. Sad news for the people who worked there. They sold bedding, towels and household goods – similar types of goods to those on offer in Beales (Comfortmaker) two doors away.

Rowing and running on a bright and frosty morning

Sport on a cold and frosty morning
Temperatures have dropped well below freezing over the last couple of days. But it will take more than a few degrees of frost to stop the rowers from Abingdon Rowing Club. There were quite a few boats out this morning.  The boat shown in these first two pictures came a little close to the ice bank at one point and ended up smashing a track through the ice with the oars.

Ice had formed away from the main channel.

On the other side of Abingdon Bridge there were lot of people taking part in the usual Saturday morning parkrun …

There is no dress code. All abilities are welcome. Just register at Abingdon Parkrun – then turn up and run the 5km.

New Curator

Lauren Gilmour (on the left during this presentation to the museum friends) has done an amazing job over the last 7 years getting lottery and other funds to ensure the County Hall and museum redevelopment project went ahead, despite the disappointment of the lift to upper floors not being allowed.

It was announced yesterday at a meeting of the museum friends that, Jane Bowen, who has been looking after refitting the museum when it reopens, is to be the new curator.
