Vulcan Bomber Over Abingdon

Air Show
I didn’t get to the Abingdon Air and Country Show this year but nethertheless did get a view of the Vulcan bomber as it first wheeled over Trinity Church, then came back a minute later over the trees of the Ock Valley Walk.

Thanks to Julian who did go to the airshow for some top notch pictures of the Vulcan and other planes …

Comedy Abingdon – first show

Comedy Abingdon
Last night at the Guildhall there was a good crowd for the first ever Comedy Abingdon with MC: Paddy Lennox and three other stand up comics.

It was a cabaret style show with people sitting at round tables. At the Guildhall bar they had boxes of two local brews: Abingdon Bridge, and Loose Cannon Pale. The two acts pictured above, including Paddy Lennox on the right, were particularly good. Profits go to local schools. Well done to the organisers and we look forward to more.

Mr Hemmings Day of Dance

Mr Hemmings
These three men – Abingdon born and bred – belong to Mr. Hemmings Traditional Abingdon Morris Dancers.
Mr Hemmings
Their annual day of dance is on the nearest Saturday to the birthday of Tom Hemmings on May 6th.

Tom Hemmings helped revive the Abingdon Morris tradition in the early half of the 20th century and was an important figure until his death in 1960.
Mr Hemmings
There were 5 or 6 visiting groups – including the Winchester Morris Men

and a group from Adderbury,

As well as the dance there was the odd bit of horsing around. The day began with rain but ended almost sunny. Planes overhead sometimes added a roar to the proceedings as they flew in for tomorrow’s air show.

Vale Vision – Free Parking

Free Parking
One things has been very clear in this local election. The Conservative Party will allow free parking in the car parks in Abingdon. This will help traders and as a result many of them supported the conservatives during the election.

After the elections the Town Council now has 11 Conservatives, 9 Lib-Dems, and 1 Labour. The Vale district council now has 31 Conservative, 19 Lib-Dems, and 1 Labour.

I was one of the defeated Lib-Dems and feel it was a great privilege to work for Abingdon on the town council for the last 8 years.
