Back to the Fifties and Eighties

Back to the Fifties
This evening at the Guildhall George Haslam’s big band Swing Time were playing music from the fifties to help raise money for the Abingdon Arts Festival.
Back to the Eighties
Next Saturday, the Cross Keys are going Back to the Eighties.

Alongside, one football fixture from 2011 would look very strange to anybody from the fifties or eighties… Manchester United V Crawley Town in the 5th round of the FA Cup. Crawley are a non league team who have invested lots of money to get the best non league players. Their pay cheque from this game could well  ensure they do not loose out.

And catkins on the Ock Valley Walk will soon be at full stretch. Their pollen will be carried on the wind to the smaller red flowers at the top of the catkins on nearby trees.

Neither route out of South Abingdon has right of way. Nothing has been done to improve the situation in the last years. It has become clear that there is no easy solution. Many ideas have been put forward and considered. Proposals have either been considered too expensive, too dangerous, or likely to hold up cars on more major routes.
